The Consultant Place

Terms of Service

Governing use of The Consultant Place platform.

Effective date: October 2026 · Version 1.0

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of the website, mobile interfaces, and related services of The Consultant Place (together, the "Platform"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.

1. Who We Are

The Platform is operated by the entity notified to users at the point of registration and in the footer of the website (the "Company," "we," "us"). The Platform connects independent consultants, consulting firms, and organisations seeking expertise across Africa and internationally, through profile verification, scored matching, and collaboration tools.

2. Eligibility and Account Types

The Platform recognises three categories of user, each with a distinct role:

  1. (a)Consultant: an individual professional offering services on their own account, as a freelancer or independent expert.
  2. (b)Firm: a registered group or practice of consultants that delivers expertise collectively under a shared identity, and may include multiple team members on one account.
  3. (c)Organisation: an entity that posts calls, briefs, or opportunities and is seeking to engage consultants or firms; organisations do not deliver expertise on the Platform, they seek it.

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to register. Organisations must register through an authorised representative with the capacity to bind that entity. We may request documentation to confirm the category under which you register and may reclassify an account where the evidence does not match the category selected.

3. Verification

Profiles and organisation accounts go through a verification process that combines automated checks with human review. Verification may include confirmation of identity, professional history, references, past project evidence, and, for organisations, proof of the entity's existence and authority to post opportunities.

Verification confirms that the information presented has been reviewed against available evidence; it is not a guarantee of a consultant's future performance or an organisation's conduct, and the Platform does not assume liability for the outcome of any engagement formed between users.

Where early-stage profiles or records are added to the Platform by our team using publicly available or shared information, rather than being self-submitted, they are clearly labelled as such until the relevant individual or entity claims, confirms, corrects, or requests removal of that listing.

4. How Matching Works

The Platform uses a scoring methodology, informed by sector, skills, location, experience, and stated preferences, to surface opportunities to consultants and firms, and to surface candidates to organisations. Match scores and recommendations are decision support, not a determination of suitability, and the final decision to engage, apply, or hire always rests with the users involved.

5. Using the Platform: Consultants and Firms

Consultants and firms may create a profile, browse and apply to opportunities, form or join teams to bid jointly on a call, message other users through the Platform, and build a verified record of completed work. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information on your profile and for your own conduct in any engagement you enter into with an organisation or another user.

Bid Teams

Where the Platform indicates that other consultants have matched to the same opportunity, users may choose to form a team to submit a joint bid. Forming a team does not create a partnership, joint venture, or agency relationship between the Company and the participants, or between the participants themselves, beyond what they separately agree.

6. Using the Platform: Organisations

Organisations may post calls, briefs, or opportunities, search and contact consultants and firms, and review applications and proposed teams. Posting a call does not obligate the organisation to engage any applicant, and the Platform does not guarantee that a posted call will receive applications of any particular number or quality.

Optional Assisted Services

Organisations may optionally request additional support beyond self-service search, including concierge-assisted team assembly, prioritised or featured placement of a call, or access to Market Insight reporting. These services are provided on separate terms communicated at the time of request and are not required to use the core Platform.

7. Fees and Payments

Posting calls and searching for expertise is free for organisations. Consultants and firms may access certain features, including expanded matching, alerts, and collaboration tools, through a paid subscription plan, the terms and pricing of which are presented at the point of purchase. Payments are processed through third-party payment providers; we do not store full payment card details.

Fees, once paid, are non-refundable except where required by applicable law or expressly stated at the point of sale. We may change subscription pricing or features on reasonable prior notice; continued use after a price change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the new pricing for subsequent billing cycles.

8. Messaging

The Platform provides in-platform messaging between users, which is encrypted in transit and at rest. We do not read or access the content of messages except where necessary to investigate a report of abuse, fraud, or a violation of these Terms, to comply with a lawful request from a competent authority, or to maintain the security of the Platform.

9. Verified Track Record

Completed engagements may be recorded as part of a consultant's or firm's verified track record, subject to confirmation by the relevant organisation. Users may dispute an entry they believe is inaccurate through our support channel, and we will review disputed entries in good faith.

10. Ask The Consultant Place and Market Insight

The Platform may offer a question-and-answer feature connecting users to practical guidance drawn from verified professional experience, and a Market Insight product offering aggregated, de-identified trends drawn from activity on the Platform. Responses provided through these features are general guidance only and are not a substitute for engaging a consultant directly for advice specific to your situation.

11. Intellectual Property

The Platform, its design, and its underlying software are the property of the Company and its licensors. You retain ownership of the content you submit (such as your profile information and portfolio materials) and grant the Company a licence to host, display, and process that content for the purpose of operating the Platform, including sharing relevant parts of it with organisations or consultants as the matching and application process requires.

12. Prohibited Conduct

You may not: misrepresent your identity, qualifications, or affiliation; post false or misleading opportunities or profile information; circumvent the Platform to avoid applicable fees once an engagement has been formed through it, where the subscription terms specify such an obligation; harass or discriminate against other users; scrape or extract data from the Platform other than through features we provide; or use the Platform for any unlawful purpose.

13. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not warrant that matching will result in a successful engagement, that any consultant, firm, or organisation will perform as represented, or that the Platform will be uninterrupted or error-free. Engagements formed between users are agreements between those users; the Company is not a party to them unless expressly stated otherwise in a separate written agreement.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Company's aggregate liability arising from or relating to use of the Platform shall not exceed the amount paid by the affected user to the Company in the twelve months preceding the claim, and the Company shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of business opportunity.

15. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, poses a risk to other users, or where verification cannot be satisfactorily completed. On termination, provisions relating to intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution survive.

16. Dispute Resolution and Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Disputes arising from these Terms shall first be addressed through good-faith negotiation between the parties and, failing resolution, through arbitration or the courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria, as further specified at the point of any formal agreement.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified to users through the Platform or by email ahead of taking effect. Continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
